 What is Performance Management and why it is so important?

Before we answer the above question let us understand the frame work that forms the base for performance management. A management system must have a predefined standard against which the performance has to be managed. So the starting point is to set a standard that is the basic benchmark for a performance to be considered as a justified output. This standard for the output or the performance must be set with respect to the required inputs in terms of resources, competence and environmental conditions in which the performer operates for delivering the performance.

Performance management is important because it helps in aligning the resources and processes for achieving the best possible results in a given time frame. Well designed performance management system can help the business scale new heights. Whereas inadequate focus on performance management can lead to depleting organizational resources causing harm to overall business health & sustainability
